New Pathways serves homeless adults with children by providing sleeping accommodations, three meals a day, case management, skills training and a safe environment.

During the evenings, and overnight, area churches and their volunteers provide: Private sleeping accommodations; Meals; Hospitality.

During the day the families go to work, school, or to one of our family day centers where the families work on their plan to get back into a home of their own. New Pathways provides all the basic needs for each family, such as: Telephone; Computers with internet access; Laundry facilities; Personal care items; Shower room; Transportation; Advocacy.

Both the Brainerd & Cambridge day centers have a Case Manager and Skills Trainer on staff to advocate and give each family the opportunity to learn skills including: Budgeting; Parenting; Job hunting; Healthy living; RentWise.

Lakes and Pines Community Action Council, Inc. helps families with children, single adults and youth experiencing homelessness in east central Minnesota by providing emergency sheltering throughout its seven-county service area which includes: Aitkin, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs and Pine.

Short-term motel/hotel stays are provided for those experiencing homelessness that have no other resources available to help them, along with case management services to reduce the length of time that households are homeless and to help them attain permanent housing. A Place For You helps individual men and women who are experiencing homelessness in Pine, Kanabec, Isanti, Mille Lacs, Carlton and Chisago counties by providing temporary shelter, individualized program plans, resource direction, support and encouragement to each of the residents during and after their stay at the shelter. The program is a 90 day program, so the program plan is very intense to be able to help the residents transition into stable housing within the 90 days.

The shelter is able to serve 5 men and 5 women at a time. Each resident has their own bedroom. While they live here, residents have a mailing address for applications and important mail. While living at the shelter, a person needs to comply with shelter rules which include:

  • Be awake and out of room by 8 A.M. daily
  • Be putting in maximum effort on their case plan
  • Be checked into the building by 10 P.M. nightly
  • Participate in daily chores assigned to them
  • Be in their room with lights out at 11 P.M.
